Discovering Your First IT Job: A Beginner’s Guide

Are you dreaming of starting your career in the IT world but finding it tricky to land that initial job? Well, today’s post is going to be a treasure trove of tips just for you! We will dive into some smart ways to search for your first IT job, uncover some unique keywords you might not have thought of, and even touch on what kind of salary you could expect. So, grab your explorer’s hat, and let’s embark on this adventure together!

Why Use Unique Search Keywords?

When most people look for entry-level IT jobs, they stick to common terms like “entry level IT” or “help desk.” But guess what? You’re not the only one using those terms, and that means a lot of competition. Here’s a little secret: using different keywords can help you find jobs that not as many people are applying for. This might just be your golden ticket to getting noticed and hired!

10 Unique Keywords to Try

We’ve put together a list of 10 special keywords that could lead you to some awesome job openings. But how did we find these gems? Well, we looked at a bunch of job descriptions and noticed trends in the titles that seemed unique or less common. Here they are:

  • Support Engineer
  • Service Desk
  • Third Shift
  • Junior
  • Client Support
  • Tier One
  • Level One
  • Software Support
  • Application Support

These terms aren’t as widely used, which means less competition for you. Pretty cool, right?

A Peek at Salaries

Now you might be wondering, “What kind of salary can I expect?” The truth is, it varies. We did some number crunching and looked at what jobs using these keywords pay on average. For example, “Support Engineer” positions might offer about $100,000 on average, but “Service Desk” roles are around $46,000. It’s important to remember that the more a job pays, the more experience or skills they might expect you to have.

Setting Your Expectations

If you’re just stepping into the IT world, aiming for jobs that offer around $40,000 to $50,000 might be a good starting point. This doesn’t mean you can’t aim higher! If you have some certifications, a degree, or even attended a coding boot camp, you might be able to score a job that pays better. It’s all about matching your skills and experiences with the right positions.

Wrapping It Up

Finding your first IT job can be a thrilling journey. By using some of the unique search terms we talked about today, you can uncover job openings that many others might not find. Remember, every job application is a step closer to your dream IT career. Don’t be afraid to apply to as many as you can, and keep learning and growing your skills. Who knows? Your perfect IT job might just be a keyword away!
